Reviewers wanted for magazine article

Hi, I've had a regular slot in http://www.offthehoof.co.uk/ magazine, with the Meet Ed pages which is about a guy who follows a meat animal only diet, kinda the opposite of a vegan. It is a humorous piece at the expense go of meat eaters, vegans and vegetarians. I'm hoping to contribute something a ...

Closure of the HVG google group

The Google group is now in a suspended state with the hope of removing it shortly. This forum has proven to be fair more popular and hence it seems wasteful to have two mechanisms effectively doing the same thing. An upgrade to http://www.humanist.veggroup.org in the nearish future will give members...

Re: Humanist and Vegetarian Ideology

I think the parallel is very strong. I do not know if Stevie agrees with me on the conclusions I have drawn here. Chris 100% Chris. Alan, you're obviously very hung up on me being vegan and this is blinding you to the conversation that this thread was set up to address. I did you the curtisy of add...

Hi Alan C, Sorry that my posts are getting you a bit heated. I don't care if you are veggie, will be one day or will never be. There are too many non-veggies out there to get worried about any individual. I'm just try to get to heart of some philosophical points. stevieP Without evolution (i.e. scie...

Hi once more (some much for afternoon of working hard!) Hi StevieP! Thanks for your courteous reply. It's quite refreshing to have the issues raised actually addressed! It's a lot more fun that way. I am disappointed you feel you can't be humanist without being vegetarian, and concerned that you are hitching your wagon to other peoples horses. But we are not going to agree on that point. Let's hope I'm wrong. I think you can be an atheist without being a humanist, a humanist without being a ve...

Hi Alan, First of all, were just another animal ourselves, some animals eat meat, we are one of those animals, (indeed some animals eat humans!) Therefore is your morality based on the lifestyles of other animals? If it good for a tiger, it is good for us? Secondly, are you saying because we can do ...

Hi Nick, Hi StevieP! Expressing it in a different way, are there not times when it is the right thing to do to kill things? Eg, instead of rats, what would you do if your larder were infested with ants and /or cockroaches? (That is not supposed to be an insult to your cleanliness btw!) Yes, I would ...

Do you veggies let rats run free in your house? What rats? I've put sonic deterrents in my house against mice. What of it? I agree blacks/gays/females people & whatever should enjoy the same rights as myself - but I also don't allow them to come ago freely in my house and take appropriate actions t...

if most of society does not assign such rights to animals, and carries on eating meat. However, on an individual basis vegetarianism is a valid position to hold and lifestyle to adopt if you personally assign such rights to animals. Is this nonsense or do people agree? Rights: This is the hub of it...

Not to be alarmist, but sometimes the adoption of a veggie diet can be used as a way of hiding a more general eating disorder. They aside it is always going to be difficult when someone in the house is following a different diet from the rest. Perhaps the first stage is to get some fresh meal ideas....

This is a big subject and after years of thought I see little difference between the justifications of humanism and vegetarianism. I am to write some thing for the HVG web site to explain it in depth but this is the crux of my thinking .... Our morality is ultimatley derived from evolved mental faci...
