OK, God, where do you suppose is the bit that is you; the bit that could not be anyone else? We have established that the body and all its cells change regularly so it can't be something physical, r could it. Let's leave axes and move on to something less scary..... I have a program on computer call...

You know, I just can't see the case for baning these substances in the face of allowing alcohol and tobacco. We know the tobacco causes disease and death; is it to 1 in 4 people? Yet we still keep it legal. the problems with a ban are twofold. Firstly, as we know the only thing it does is to drive d...

hi! yes, time is always against us isn't it. |isn't there a student organization for something like Humanism? I would have thought there would be. I'll check up. As for speakers here, we had Plantinga trying to porve the existence of god as couple of years ago. Not knowing much philosophy and logic ...

Moonbeam, I was not suggesting the people here area group as such, but I should think that we all, in our own ways would want to do something, perhaps independently, towards publicizing Humanism. I mean is there anyone here who would want allow some of the nonsense talked on radio or TV by clergy ge...

Well, I wonder if religion will, finally, disappear. I somehow doubt it unless, as we sometimes see, religion takes on new forms suh as football teams and music stars. As far as Humanism being anti-religious, let's see it from the Christian perspective. Christians are persuaded that they have a Savi...

I quite liked the idea of a new name for atheism which made the concept positive rather the negative character of atheism. However, whilst it gives a tlking point for others it really does not link into the concept of atheism like Humanism does. It was a great idea but the wrong word; though I can't...

You know, I was thinking about religion in schools and reflecting what happened to my children; now 24 and 27. here's what I came up with. For primary schooling we sent them to our nearest C of E Primary School. It was very highly recommenced and we were C of E members and I was the organist too. So...

Let's quickly look at some history. Prior to the 1860s the teaching of the RC Church was that the soul entered the foetus of a male after 40 days and a female after 80 days. At that point, there would not have been a problem with abortion like there is now. The1960s brought about a new teaching abou...

It was great to leave it behind to come to Scotland; it just a great place to live [ except for the tourists, CLAN, RSCDS, students.... The town ...

Ally, interesting piece and something for laypeople to ponder over. Most people looking at the Bible have no idea where the texts come from and, really, have no idea who wrote them. Of course the church claims that by inspiration they all agree, Huh! Have done an MTheol degree I can certainly say th...

Well, er... what is says in the title. OK, not too helpful so let's try a bit harder. As a group of people here on the forum we have been having a very happy time posting and chatting in our new uncensored (so far) home and this has been great but perhaps the time is right to take on something a bit...

Doesn't prophylactic come from Greek and the word for a guard? Medically it refers to a treatment carried out to prevent something later. Thus an antibiotic before surgery to prevent an infection developing later. A condom also is used to prevent something happening later; a pregnancy.

I seem to remember quite a few books that probably could not be put on shelves these days. I mean, look at the Noddy books. There is a whole town of Gollies, had a longer name in my day which, with their black faces would not do. Then Noddy and Big Ears going to bed together.... I am astonished I am...

Maria, I hadn't seen the pictures of your wedding before but it looks a lovely place. It looks much better than the church at which Iw as married; near Birminghma International Airport and with flashing lights of top for the pilots! one thing though, don't you need witnesses there or does the celebr...
