Have the rich and powerful lost their altruistic instincts?

Have the rich and powerful lost their altruistic instincts? Humans are the most altruistic and good of all the animal species, yet at present, our rich and powerful allow the poorest of us to starve to death by hoarding their wealth. This is unheard of in the animal world. https://www.upworthy.com/9...

Re: Satan gave man love. Was it worth the hate?

Stupid is as stupid argues, stupid? Regards DL It's still tosh. GB, maybe try to come up with real answers rather than platitudes like the one you gave. I suppose I do see your point, though I do not believe that any of the four entities you mention actually existed. Yes, I guess that "innocen...

Satan gave man love. Was it worth the hate?

Satan gave man love. Was it worth the hate? Adam thought so. He instantly and without argument or hesitation ate of that knowledge when Eve offered love to Adam. Without Satan causing Original Sin, mankind could no know of love or hate as love and hate are subject to being good or evil. Would you do...

Re: Should Governments regulate fraudulent religions?

no, no, no! Learn a bit of logic, GB. Some terms have wider meanings than others and include them in this wider meaning. For instance all humans are animals but not all animals are humans. Applying this to the present argument, all lies are false statements but not false statements are lies - they ...

Re: Should Governments regulate fraudulent religions?

When was the last time you saw a Catholic priest or protestant preacher go to court to show why he is lying to his flock? Can you give me an example of "lying"? I'm not sure we're on the same page here. Strictly speaking lying is not illegal in itself. It is when the mark pays for the lie...

Re: Should Governments regulate fraudulent religions?

A false statement is exactly how a lie is described. If you cannot get that. no, no, no! Learn a bit of logic, GB. Some terms have wider meanings than others and include them in this wider meaning. Re: Should Governments regulate fraudulent religions?

As to the O.P. Do you see religions as mostly preaching truth or lies? If lies, do you think that a thing that should be allowed to continue in light of the damage religions bring to us, like homophobia and misogyny? Regards DL you do not seem to listen to what I say, so I will break it down. Not a...

animist wrote:[What is a logical fallacy? What logical fallacy have I or anyone else committed?

A logical fallacy is well described in the dictionary.

In those, I would include any statement that is faith based and not fact based.

Those are all lies from what evidence is given for the statements.

Re: Should Governments regulate fraudulent religions?

if there were, why is the first stop of a new president right after the signing in is to a Church? Is this supposed to be an example of a logical fallacy? :) How are the two things related? What kind of thing do you have in mind specifically as fraudulent religious activity? Some things are in fact...

Re: Should Governments regulate fraudulent religions?

A worldview which fraudulently insinuates itself as a religion but instead promotes terrorism should be regulated. Take for instance, Communism and Nazism, if they had branded themselves as religions rather than political systems (and they did actually represent themselves as intolerant religions, ...

Re: Should Governments regulate fraudulent religions?

so if someone shouts "wolf" or "fire" you disbelieve them and demand evidence before you escape the alleged threat? OK, but I would get out first and then, if the threat does not materialise, question the person who made the claim. You obviously do not seem to get my points abou...

Re: Should Governments regulate fraudulent religions?

you are begging the question here. By definition, a lie is an untruthful statement known to be so by the person making it. Since neither you nor I have direct knowledge of these people whom you believe to be charlatans, you cannot assume that they "know" what they say is untrue, and by ca...

Re: Should Governments regulate fraudulent religions?

The problem with treating the religious as fraudsters is that they actually believe the nonsense, like some people believe in socialism  It's difficult and undesirable to legislate against stupidity. It is for sure, but to believe that a fraudster believes his own lies is not very intuitive. ...

Re: Should Governments regulate fraudulent religions?
