Re: In or out?

People voting for the wrong reasons is also my issue about the referendum. Not helped by the papers and TV debates constantly having immigration as the main topic of debate. I understand they do this because they want to reflect what people are concerned about, and immigration is often given as a co...

Re: In or out?

The advantage of leaving for me is better democracy for people of the UK. Europe can create policy which affects the UK but which we have no or very little say over. I think there's been a lot of scaremongering in the media and politics regarding the economy if we were to leave and I don't believe m...

Re: Veganism

Today's article: Veganism Makes No Sense I thought this was an interesting read ^. I find humans' attitude to animals interesting, and I'm sure we do place different values on different species, perhaps subconsciously. If we all agree that different animals have different 'values', perhaps we would...

Re: Volkswagen's Diesel Cheating Catastrophe

It's a scandal. I thought it might ruin VW but it seems as though they'll manage it. I know it's not the full financial story but I thought this was interesting, as even with this catastrophe it reads as though the company might even manage to stay in profit, at least in the short term. Financially ...

Ha, I guess time will tell. He's certainly rocked the boat and has difficulties ahead. I think that there has been so much dissatisfaction with the government of New Labour, the coalition and now the Tories, and that politics generally seems less and less for the benefit of the majority of people. P...

Re: Labour leadership election

Really glad that Corbyn's won. I keep hearing that he'll drag Labour towards obscurity, that he's too left for the electorate, but I feel that people are ready for a real political change in that direction. I hope Corbyn and his policies stand up to scrutiny and I look forward to that scrutiny. Prev...

Re: There is no morality in nature, why do we pretend we hav

As far as morality in animals goes, they have patterns of consistent behavior concerning they way they treat each other etc. That is as much a morality to me as what humans would call morality. It's mostly instinctive really. Interestingly, my dog knew that it wasn't allowed upstairs. It still did i...

Newspapers don't seem to be printing the latest Charlie Hebdo cover, of the ones that are, you have to dig around to find it. Have the terrorists won this battle?

Re: Humanism is a Religion ??!!??

It's kinda for this reason that I have never been comfortable with the term Humanism, preferring to refer to myself as atheist or "non-believer" if discussing religion. I don't believe that a supernatural god exists or ever has. That's basically it. I understand that the guy has gone down this route...

Re: Naked Rambler

Very disappointed with the E C of HR on this one, an organisation whose decisions I usually respect. ...the court in Strasbourg found that while he had a right to freedom of expression, this did not extend to hiking with his pants off, adding that his views on nudity were “shared by very few people”...

Re: If you have to choose

No, not in my opinion. I hope that we more and more understand and respect the animals around us, but I don't see much evidence of us seeing other animals on anywhere near an equal basis. An example might be what we do to our environments, which are very biased towards human existance, often to the ...

Re: If you have to choose

I feel that historically, and sometimes now, humans are very arrogant when it come to animals ( other animals). I wonder if it's an innate part of the pshyche of animals (and us) to think that their species is the most important, to want it to thrive over other species. I suppose in a way it's natur...

Re: And still the numbers grow...

I just think it's inevitable. I credit the internet with a lot of 'enlightenment'. Facts and science are out there for everybody now, and eventually the truth will out. I know there's probably as much misinformation swimming around the web but more and more it will get debunked and we will more and ...

Re: The wearing of full face veils

Ok, but what if some people don't want to have face to face interaction. Who is to say that they must? Not me. On what grounds?

A matter of choice. Don't blame the garment. People should be able to wear what they want.

A couple of years old now, but apparently the first instance of the censorship, an article regarding German Neo-Nazi propaganda which was blocked. Again, personally I'd rather people decided for themselves what was, or was not, worth reading, rather than a government or certainly a global social med...

Re: Stand up against #TwitterTheocracy and Blasphemy Laws

Twitter is responsible for its actions and if it puts commercial gain over free speech then it needs to be held accountable for that decision.

Looks like a good campaign.

Re: Niqab cannot be worn in court

Yes I would accept that. I would wonder why anyone would want to cover up their faces voluntarily, but providing it's voluntary then it would be a matter for them. I suppose it would be an equally valid question why we want to cover up our breasts or bottoms, or our bare chests inside pubs. We don't...

Re: Niqab cannot be worn in court

As we all enjoy our anonymity on here if not elsewhere we would have to agree but it does seem we have to legally define the limits to our tolerance. I personally don't get the burqa or niqab; I consider it an oppressive tool that limits womens life choices and job opportunities. There are proporti...
