Not sure I'd call it brilliant, but rather better than I was expecting from Ian Dunt!

Re: Is Earth overpopulated with humans?

How can I get everyone to live and help live? You can only do what you can do. It doesn't help if you try to do more than you can do. And the first place to start is with yourself and your family. It is by taking care of yourself and those nearest to you that you can gain the strength and means to ...

Re: In or out?

A Brexit withdrawal agreement in name only Theresa May once promised that there would be a robust “red, white and blue Brexit”. We now have a limp green, yellow and white Brexit, where the UK has not in any meaningful way taken back control of anything. All the time and effort expended since the re...

Re: Is Earth overpopulated with humans?

Aren't humans mostly good? A very good question! The short answer is that humans are mostly human. A slightly longer answer is that evolution has given us a number of characteristics which have ensured the continuation of the human species. One of those characteristics is the development of ...

Re: Is Earth overpopulated with humans?

Shouldn't the more fortunate help the less fortunate? They do. That's what the 40% government expenditure is largely about. I think everyone should receive according to needs and contribute according to abilities. A nice idea, but there are limits beyond which it ceases to be effective. We are, aft...

Re: Is Earth overpopulated with humans?

I agree with a lot of this (maybe not the dig at socialism, though the types of "socialism" which have found power so far have not been good, I agree). Ah, yes! The "wrong sort of socialism! :laughter: What a good phrase, "respect for our sisters". Glad you like it. I find it so much easier to supp...

Re: Positive Money videos

Does that help...? :) in a way, yes thanks, but what you seem to be talking about are demand and supply in the "real" economy, not about money. And there's no money in the "real" economy? When you talk about M, whether for Van Gogh or cars, you seem to be talking about demand for a particul...

Re: Positive Money videos

Yes, if other things are equal. Which they may or may not be. Thus, an increase in M may result in an increase in T, without increasing P. In practice, it is likely to affect both. Using the simplest of models, take two examples. In the first, supply is inelastic, in the second, elastic. If M is in...

Re: Should Governments regulate fraudulent religions?

The problem with treating the religious as fraudsters is that they actually believe the nonsense, like some people believe in socialism  It's difficult and undesirable to legislate against stupidity.

“The fear in Dublin is that our border towns would become a backdoor into the UK. In that instance what sort of fortress would the Northern Ireland border have to become to close that backdoor?” Phil Hogan, European Commissioner for Agriculture, 9 May 2016 Well, he would say that, wouldn't he? Re: Positive Money videos

Well, MV is another way of expressing PT, as both are another way of expressing the same thing, the total expenditure over a given period. Does that help...? :) not a lot. Look, it is intuitively obvious that increasing M will increase P in some rough and ready way, other things equal. Yes, if othe...

The Not So Subtle Trick In Macron’s Eurozone Reform Plans By Tim Worstall - March 16, 2018 Macron, the French President, has a not so subtle trick up his sleeve with his plans for reform of the eurozone. That being that he’s presenting it as a two speed Europe – those who want the further integrati...

Re: In or out?

EU diplomats tell May to back down over post-Brexit Irish border It is just that sort of arrogant language which gets up the noses of Brexiteers. Who (TF) are EU diplomats to tell a sovereign nation to do anything? Especially in such patronising language! Sod off! (And that's being polite!) Here's ...

Re: Positive Money videos

It might help to think of banks creating "credit", rather than creating "money" (M4 rather than M0) When the credit is repaid, it disappears. If they printed new bank notes (without destroying them when they are deposited back in the bank) then that would be, well, a licence to print money! And henc...

Re: Positive Money videos

A couple of other points. It is not just banks who create "money". If I am supplied widgets on credit , there is precious little difference between that aand me borrowing the money from the bank to pay cash on delivery. In such circumstances, controlling money pound by pound becomes a little difficu...

not driving at anything, I just thought you might explain just why this equation is true and a tautology Hmmm... I take it you mean tautological in the philosophical sense, not as used in common parlance, ie is always true, as in an equation, rather than a needless explanation ( a blue ball is blue...
