Re: Windows 10 again

I just want XP back. No you don't. You really don't! If you already have and use 8.1, I can't see any disadvantage in moving to W10 - it's up to date, has extra features and is faster. Yes, there are some downsides and you may feel you're being pressured, but W8.1 - like XP - is a dead end, like it...

Re: Windows 10 again

I have a week to view paper diary, a calendar on the wall and a real paper address book. I can use them with no internet access, electricity etc. No smart phone or tablet as I have no need for them. Unfortunately I have to use f'ing google for one job's email but always ensure I log out as soon as I...

Re: Windows 10 again

   I've been very careful not to click on any of the W10 updates, despite being infuriated by not being able to close the dialogue boxes. When I turned my laptop on today there was an (untrue!) message that this would be the last time I could log into my own f'ing account. I hav...

Good on The Hon. Mrs Justice Roberts
If an adult wants to chop the end off his todger for any reason, that's fine by me.

To my mind circumcising children is abuse.

Re: In or out?

In. Despite being mightily uncomfortable to support Cameron in anything and very much disliking his greedy, insular ignorance of human rights little englander renegotiations this may help. I'm in the tenth of the population being a "citizen of the world", but pretty sure on here that would be a majo...

Re: Trident

Being of the pacifist persuasion (and Greenham Common veteran) I see Trident - as all nuclear bombs, indeed arguably all weapons - as obscene. I really don't get how such a relatively remote and damp little group of islands think we must have some sort of military, or any other form of, global influ...

Seems appropriate :D baah fing humbug.jpg It's the first Dec 25 I've not worked in years: having a lovely time reading in bed with pots of tea and a friend kindly came round with a plated home-cooked dinner for me -she wanted to thank me, what a sweetie- the stove is blazing and I've had exercise lu...

Re: Paris killings

As it seems that, despite evidence or any sense of even recent history, Westmonster will vote for bombing even more shit out of Syria tomorrow is some well misguided eye for an eye mentality covering the "business" of arms manufacture and ridiculous concern about our small island's "importance" I ca...

Re: Windows 10

Thank you Alan. Guess I'll have to bite the bullet before the year is out as I've resigned from my main work and need to closely watch the pennies. I predict another steep learning curve... Seems the only thing they say they don't collect is advertising data. Yet I don't understand why everyone does...

Re: Windows 10

Good question Ninny :D What happens if I don't install Windows 10? Have only just got my head round 8.1. As it's currently offered free will I have to pay for it later if I don't install it now? Their website doesn't seem to help. I've heard uncomfortable things about its possible snooping and don't...

Re: GAME ON!

We need some sort of second chamber Do we? When Scotland becomes independent why would we need a second chamber? I have a suggestion. Suppose everyone over (say) fifty could put their name forward as a second-Chamber juror. Suppose every year from then on, 12 names were picked at random from that l...

Re: The future of Government (if any)

Nick: Although I have to pay more for my car insurance I think it's worthwhile in the context of human rights. Peoples lives are more important than my luxurious desire to drive. You and I, and most of us here, are mightily fortunate. I get that. I also get that many others do not have our luxury. H...

Please take the trime to read THIS carefully. It is important. I did and it is. Thank you Thundril. This from the article cannot be stated often enough. Our ministers are not public servants. They work for the people who fund their parties, run the banks and own the newspapers, shielding them from ...

Thanks for that Alan. And is it only me who sees the hypocritical irony that this government is employing two state owned companies -French & Chinese- to build new nuclear plants?
