I dont know whether americano is filter coffee in the big chains. Hi, anaconda. Not sure where you are from, but I drink my coffee "ameri...

Re: To be, or not to be

Can I suggest a slightly different question? If you could start from scratch, with the same circumstances of birth, the same parents, the same genes, the same initial environment, but with a different, unknown configuration of luck, would you want another go at it? I would be very curious as to how...

Re: To be, or not to be

So you're not a determinist then Emma? :) Yes, I am, as it happens. If everything is the inevitable consequence of antecedent states of affairs, how do you explain spontaneous genetic mutations that occur randomly in people? Surely that is a question of normal biological functioning and in no way p...

Re: Coffee or tea?

Id be tempted to lodge a protest vote at the next general election. Ive grown to detest the laddish silly behavior in parliament inc question time and also the machismo and pomp which runs through political life. We also need a different kind of MP. Esther?.....er......possible, well ok then, well a...

Re: Leather Furniture

To suggest that there is a shared philosophy between vegetarians and humanists misrepresents what humanism is about because you suggest a higher or more pure philosophy. Why is it not equally consistent to be a meat eater and carry on an equally good life which humanists desire. I dont see the diffe...

Hedonist humanist here too.

....and I loved the office , probably because ive worked in offices for years and the David Brent character resonates with me. Truth and comedy = extra funny. I love Fawlty Towers but tend to worry more about his deteriorating mental health than his business.

Lobotomies all round to be replaced with the brains of schoolchildren aged from seven to ten. Lets see whether power corrupts young fresh minds.

Of course the replacement brains are to be found in a dedicated brain nursery, so no children will actually be hurt in this experiment! :)

Trust no one and you'll never be disappointed, experience has taught me this anyway... =3 Ouch Mewi!....i wouldnt like to carry such a philosophy with me. Its surely beter to have been let down sometimes and to benefit from trusting someone close to you than to shut everyone out? I would also like ...

Re: Is Secular Humanism just another religion?

Lesser? He didn't say that. People calling humanists "commies" illustrates the ignorance and prejudice of those people, not communist tendencies of humanists. That's how I read it. This was the kind of accusation I came up against when discussing humanism on a number of Facebook groups, from Americ...

Re: An Issue with Humanism, not an attack just an observation

I agree with a lot of what you say. I think that the 'militant front' of atheism poorly represents Humanism. As far as I am concerned religion is not something that needs to be eradicated completely, but it needs to have its current influence restricted and put into a wider secular context. Persona...

I like "Just a Minute", however, I am no conniosseur and just enjoy the witty banter. +1 for Just A Minute. I also like Sorry I Haven't A Clue and The News Quiz. Radio 4 FTW! They are my three faves too. My wife got me a couple of CDs of 'im sorry' which convinced me Humphrey Littleton really made ...
