Re: Is spending shitloads of money on pet vet treatment immoral?

I'm with Val, here (I think I may have said this before). For me humans are more important than other animals and surely it makes sense that we seek to preserve our own species first? I don't believe for one minute that if a human passed a pond in which there was a struggling human child and a stru...

Re: Is spending shitloads of money on pet vet treatment immoral?

Well, he did write [trope] after it, Val. I think that signifies he didn't mean it literally. Thanks, Maria. that's exactly why I attempted to clarify it. To tell the truth, I also expected some flak about ' Mitzvah '. It's just that the religious have amassed such a marvellous collection of expres...

Re: Is spending shitloads of money on pet vet treatment immoral?

referring to the title of this thread makes me think of a programme that is broadcast here at 9.15 am every weekday morning. Animal 24/7 follows RSPCA and Dogs Trust etc ;to get stories of animals having been illtreated. Also rescued wild animals. I get upset when I see so much being spent to rescu...

Re: The Natural World

Very cute, but how comfortable can they be sitting around on horizontal surfaces? Sloths are built to hang upside down. On the ground they can't even walk.
The group splayed out on a table/shelf, eating, looked particularly unnatural. :sad2:

Re: Live to Ride, Ride to Live

Yeah bikes pretty much universally have 12v systems now Alan but you have to be careful taking a jump start from a car. If the car engine is running the amps put out by the much beefier car alternator can burn out the bike's wiring or cause a fire. Not sure that's quite right. A car battery is 12 V...

Re: Live to Ride, Ride to Live

I'm surprised there aren't more diesel bikes. You could have a much more compact engine, better mileage and more torque, all desirable features in a small, bicycle-configured vehicle.

Re: Live to Ride, Ride to Live

"...it wants to engage but it won't." I take that to mean your engine isn't turning over. Battery sounds like the most likely problem. I take it you don't have a multi-meter to check it? Ride to an auto parts store or bike shop. They can test the battery free and sell you a new one if needed. You ca...

Re: Live to Ride, Ride to Live

I've got a couple of Harleys but don't know how to post pictures.
Bikes generally get much better mileage (kilometerage?) than 4-wheeled vehicles. I think they're an underrated transport mode, particularly in the US.

Liked the Postman Pat riff. Still needs practice, obviously.
Have you tried capoing it up a step? I find the closer frets and lower action makes fingering a new piece a lot easier.

I don't live in the UK, but in my (US) state my permission to harvest any useful body parts is indicated by a red printed "Donor" on my driver's license, along with a cute little red heart.

Well, obviously cattle (and sheep and goats and water buffalo and bison and camels and yaks and llamas ...) are not solely responsible for greenhouse gas emissions, but Nick says they make a significant contribution (currently more significant than cars), and it's growing fast, because people in de...
