Apparently, St Polycarp is the Patron Saint against Dysentery
I didn't know there could be a pPatron Saint against anything.
I wonder how many other bizarre patron saints there are?

Re: The new insomniacs' thread
Ugh! Having difficulty trying to sleep, so gave up and started reading my bedtime book agin.
Still not working.
And I read somewhere that these screens emit light on a wavelenth* that makes your brain think it's daytime and keeps you awake.

Re: Does that make me a troll?
Im done with them. It's completely useless trying to have anything resembling a rational discussion with people like them. Their actions really are cultish.

I know. I'm being a wee bit facetious.
Or maybe sarcastic? I always confuse the two.

Alan, I'm gobsmacked!
Well. Maybe not.
I think I'll complain to Trading Stamdards, though. They cdescribe themselves as providing information to enable parents to make an "informed" choice.

Lighthearted only!
What will you ban?
I'd ban all organisations which promote pseudoscience and imprison everyone who insists on believing it after a compulsory period of re-education.
Need to keep the people safe from unsafe ideas!

Re: Does that make me a troll?
I have just noticed that they dapper to delete any dissenters posts. As a result it's not possible to follow an argument. They have yet to delete mine. But I can feel it coming. I have noticed one of my friends has "liked" their site. She also believes Wakefield is a "wronged man". She has a Masters...

Does that make me a troll?
I've been posting on a vaccine denial Facebook page. Initially, because of the name, I thought it was a pro, or at least balanced, page, but it's full on the usual nonsense. Well, I kinda got sucked into stupid, pointless conversations and eventually I've lost it. I am now seeing how far I can go, w...

Always makes me smile when you tell friends who insist on organic food that they use pesticides. There seems to be an assumption that organic means pesticides are never used.

Re: The future of the NHS (if any)
If services could be redesigned, trimmed down but still functional in the same way that technology can perhaps mortgages and all financial services would also be cheaper! Actually this process does happen in the NHS in an indirect way. There are a great many procedures carried out now without a sin...

Re: The future of the NHS (if any)
You cannot improve health services without spending more money and resources I wouldn't deny it is a huge task, but think for a moment: in all sorts of other activities, improvements have gone together with cost reductions. Eg computers, cars, phones.... the list is almost endless. Why should that ...

Re: The wearing of full face veils
I think the key here is "interpersonal". For interaction to take place both people must have view of each other's faces, therefore the wearing if a nuqab prevents this and negatively interferes with the other persons relationship with the person wearing it. Surely this means that the wearing of th n...

Re: The future of the NHS (if any)
I haven't heard of this project, but it seems to me that before you embark on something like this, myou must be absolutly clear WHY you are doing it. Is it to improve services and care or is it to save money? Because the two despite what politicians will say, cannot coexist. You cannot improve health...

Re: Books enjoyed
I'm trying to familiarise myself a little with Balkan history of the more recent kind ( 19thc to date). I've read a couple of books and, like Pooh, I have litle brain. Some of the books were way too details and became increasingly impenetrable. Does anyone have any suggestions? I have contacted Glas...

Pharmacists are a greatly underused resource. Sorry, Dave. I clearly misunderstood your post. I was told by my GP that I must never take tramadol with amatriptylene. And never take co codamol with tramadol (I'd had them all at one point). However someone I know was prescribed all 3 by an emergency G...
