Re: A Humanist Christmas Message?
I guess tradition wins out then in popular opinion. I know the French tried to redo the calender and rename everything and even make the days 10 hours long (longer hours, of course). The whole thing only lasted about 13 years when Napoleon reverted back to the Gregorian calendar. Perhaps the fatal f...

Re: A Humanist Christmas Message?
:pointlaugh: In Florida, at least, the public schools call Christmas (and New Years) the "Winter Holidays" as they are not allowed (officially) to refer to the school holidays as Christmas holidays. Don't know what they do in the UK, but maybe Humanists should do the same and just call them the Wint...

It's difficult to pick just one. Perhaps The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald. It works on many different levels.

Re: Our very own countdown thread!
Wow, sounds intriguing! Lucky for me, and many other members, that it happened. Otherwise the world wouldn't have a decent Humanist forum like this one. Now all we need is a section like "report from America" for us Yanks and Canadians. 997,346 (which should really be 997,332 because of all the prev...

Probably the Smithsonian museums in Washington, DC. I could spend ages there. Only a small portion of the collection is on display at any one time. The newer Air and Space museum is especially interesting. The Smithsonian Institution was actually founded by a British scientist who never visited the ...

Wouldn't it be ironic if it was sold to someone who turned it into an evolution theme park?
Here's one skeptic's report of his trip to the now defunct Dinosaur Adventure Land. Sounds more like a trip to hell! :
