President Palin
President Palin
Well if McCain gets in, he is quite likely to pop his clogs so.........
I see Palin is mentioned in the 'Grant a Wish' thread and I agree we need to talkabout this (if we want to).
Laura Grant (I think) in the Guardian for Wed or Thurs (I think) wrote a moving piece on the 'two Americas' and never the twain shall meet. Dead scary.
She represents the thick, country-fied minority with their guns and hanging and no abortion and jesus and wars here and there and, like Bush (who is probably even thicker), would rule the world as a representative of the so-called most advanced nation - -OH! I give up.

Yes, but she has had a lot of experience travelling the world and is very funny...

There are three fundamental questions for anyone advocating Brexit:
1. What, precisely, are the significant and tangible benefits of leaving the EU?
2. What damage to the UK and its citizens is an acceptable price to pay for those benefits?
3. Which ruling of the ECJ is most persuasive of the need to leave its jurisdiction?

According to Sharia Plan (anagram - she is the secret Muslim, not Obama), the difference between a hockey mum and a pitbull in Alaska is lipstick. I suppose it is just the small town mentality putting lipstick on a pitbull but I can't (and don't want to) figure out what they do next.

Her speech made me want to crawl in to a hole and die (of embarrassment and despair).
Give quiche a chance.

Re: President Palin
Besides being horrified by Pitbull Palin's views, I have a question. Did her daughter, Bristol, become pregnant as a result of the (lack of or type of) sex education (in its widest sense) she received, from her mother, her school, her church and her wider social circle. I don't know for certain of course, but my hunch would be that effective birth control was not exactly emphasised. I wish Bristol and her redneck (his own description) husband-to-be well, but marriage at 17 is not, statistically, a good bet.
I am not advocating she terminate the pregnancy. If she wishes to keep the baby, that is her choice, and I'm fine with that.
ETA: I've just wiki'd Mrs Palin. Apparently, she eloped with her husband at 24, which doesn't say much for her relationship with her parents, or possibly her parents, or maybe her, or her 'family values'.

Re: President Palin
From what I've read, she was only taught "abstinence", and we all know how effective that isNick

Some Americans are saying that the downs syndrome baby Sarah Palin says is hers, is actually Bristols, I haven't had time to check it out (probably just a conspiracy theory, so loved by Americans)
Abstinence Makes the Church Grow Fondlers.
Re: President Palin
Just read this in an article in the mediascan (thanks Alan)
Most poignantly, she will not countenance sex education for teenagers, preferring instead to preach that abstinence is the only complete protection against pregnancy or venereal disease. It would be a cheap shot to suggest that this week's bombshell revelation that her 17-year-old daughter, Bristol, is herself pregnant was Palin's comeuppance.

Re: President Palin
Can anyone trust a national leader (if Palin were to assume the Presidency at any point) that only believes in one option for a situation? If abstinence is the only option for sex education, what else can we look forward to? Will war be the only response to international disagreement? Will "faith-based initiatives" be the only form of social assistance? I guess that for those to whom Jesus is the only answer, Palin is probably a perfect choice.
Re: President Palin
Anyone who names their daughter 'Bristol' is obviously deranged.

Too right, Maria. She should be restrained and locked up.Maria wrote:Anyone who names their daughter 'Bristol' is obviously deranged.
Mind you, at least she kept the name in the singular...
Carpe diem. Savour every moment.

This should probably be in the comedy thread but here it is anyway, sent to me by an American friend.

On behalf of the US, I want to apologize for Sarah Palin. McCain must have dementia to pick that inexperienced, incompetent religious wacko.
I have no excuses for the people who will vote for them.

Hey, no apology required. We had an incompetent religious wacko as Prime Minister for 10 years. Difference is that he kept it hidden (or at the very least played it down) because he knew he would not have had a snowballs chance in hell of being elected otherwise. On behalf of the US, I want to apologize for Sarah Palin.
