Charlie Hebdo attack
Charlie Hebdo attack
This sounds like carnage...
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/world-europe-30710777
Why am I not surprised when the reports carry comments like...
"They were heard shouting "Allahu Akbar". "
"France TV Info says that gunman is heard shouting "God is great" in Arabic in a video of shooting."
"Witnesses quoted by French Europe 1 radio say that one of the attackers shouted "The prophet was avenged" while carrying out the assault."
BUT...The pen is mightier than the sword!

IHEU has just posted this
Quite. No person who genuinely recognises the humanity of their fellow citizens, or who is remotely interested in the good of society at large or for any section of society, could ever justify this terrorism.
Re: Charlie Hebdo attack
I would like to think that every European newspaper publish on its front page the same cartoon that Charlie Hebdo published a couple of years ago with the same caption, "100 lashes of the whip if you don't die laughing."
That would show that we do have a free press that will not be intimidated

+1 Altfish, but I'm not holding my breath.
Cartoonists have been busy fighting this horror by their pens.Altfish wrote:BUT...The pen is mightier than the sword!
Re: Charlie Hebdo attack
I tried to post a couple of those earlier, but they were too large to show on this forum.Fia wrote: Cartoonists have been busy fighting this horror by their pens.
I wish my French was better, I don't understand many of them.
Re: Charlie Hebdo attack
Only one of the pictures actually showed for me, number 16, "He drew first."

The link is understandably very busy just now, Dave. The cartoons are well worth looking at when the traffic lessens...
They do have helpful English translation underneath, Altfish, albeit in small grey type

Re: Charlie Hebdo attack
I get to the site OK and can see the list of names and the comments - just no pictures apart from No. 16.

There are three fundamental questions for anyone advocating Brexit:
1. What, precisely, are the significant and tangible benefits of leaving the EU?
2. What damage to the UK and its citizens is an acceptable price to pay for those benefits?
3. Which ruling of the ECJ is most persuasive of the need to leave its jurisdiction?

Charlie Hebdo says they will publish next week. I'm ordering a copy by post. Suggest everyone in the world who gives a shit about freedom does the same. Please share on all media worldwide. Make this viral!
Re: Charlie Hebdo attack
People on Twitter are saying that instead of the usual 66,000 copies, they will be printing 1 million!

Re: Charlie Hebdo attack
There needs to be a world-wide buzz to make sure they sell a lot more than that! Upfront payments inc postage, with extra donations from those who can. (Can't start it myself cos I've closed my twitter, FB accounts.)
Re: Charlie Hebdo attack
Thundril's right. However, I've spent ages today trying to find a way to order the next edition. Can you point me in the right direction please?

Re: Charlie Hebdo attack
I'm still trying. I'll let you know if I find a way to do it. Meanwhile, please share the idea. Someone will know how, or will be able to set up a method..
Re: Charlie Hebdo attack
It doesn't look like it'll be very easy, there's a site here asking the very question...but not giving a good answer for people outside of France...

I expect they'll turn up on e-bay at greatly inflated prices
