BREXIT talks have strengthened the pound despite the Project Fear predictions that leaving the European Union would damage the UK economy, according to finance strategist Larry McDonald.

typical lying in shit paper headlines, which are revealed to be such when you get to the marginally less stupid article itself. It is not the Brexit vote, long ago, which has strengthened the pound but some talks about this quagmire which have slightly strengthened the pound from the position it was in. And I will say this only as many times as necessary. WE HAVE NOT LEFT THE EUROPEAN UNION

Slowly but surely, Brexit is starting to shape up

Last week, the City's other newspaper, the Financial Times, ran an unusually bullish piece entitled 'Reasons to be cheerful about Brexit in the City.' This column doesn't make a habit of drawing on the pink 'un for inspiration, but the piece was notable – not least for its refreshingly optimistic tone.

It suggested three reasons why Brexit might not result in the kind of damage predicted by the notorious Project Fear. Firstly, it asked readers to recognise just how far the UK has come in negotiations. A deal has been penned on transition and citizens' rights, but the City has also successfully brought the government on board with its preferred negotiating position of proposing mutual recognition in financial services regulation.

Hey coffee. Can you find any good Brexit news in the Exiting the European Union Committee report, published yesterday? The future UK-EU relationship
Alan Henness

There are three fundamental questions for anyone advocating Brexit:

1. What, precisely, are the significant and tangible benefits of leaving the EU?
2. What damage to the UK and its citizens is an acceptable price to pay for those benefits?
3. Which ruling of the ECJ is most persuasive of the need to leave its jurisdiction?

I think we are both speaking to an empty vessel, which appears not to be able to express itself in any intelligible way. Seems to be so for most Leave voters, and even some Remain voters. All my local MP, Sir Nick Soames, was able to utter was that "we have to get on with it".

I see a couple of pieces here focusing on the fear that planes may not fly after Brexit. I am guessing that this is such a scary scenario that it is unlikely to come to pass, which is why the Brexidiots use it to discredit the genuine real fears about Brexit, in the same way that these Brexidiots like to focus on the exaggerated scares back in summer 2016 about an immediate threat to the UK economy in case of a Leave vote. Planes probably will fly after Brexit because no-one has an interest in preventing some sort of agreement to replace the current one. What is not clear is how the Brexidiots will somehow manage to get everything else done in time, like the ports and all the agreements which will lapse on B-Day. Every single thing is possible in isolation, but not everything can be done together in the time scale allowed

first piece - I don't see much here about Remainers trying to do anything, it is the other 27 who are chopping off options like extensions to the Article 50 process and the transition deal. So much for the EU being terrified of Brexit! And anything could happen to dislodge the government or Brexit as things hot up this summer, so the article's confidence in some smooth ride to March 2017 is misplaced. Second piece - ironically, many Leavers appear terrified of a European Army!

Care home bosses dismiss fears Brexit could worsen nursing workforce crisis

Care home bosses have dismissed fears Brexit could exacerbate the nursing workforce crisis, saying EU nurses are expensive to recruit, retention rates are low and they don’t want to live in the areas where shortages are.

If EU nurses are so expensive, retention rates are low and don't want to live in these areas, why are so many employed?

quite. Also, a number of other points moderate the headline to this piece. Clearly EU nurses have not been the magic bullet that some in the care home sector hoped, but it does not follow that a reduced supply due to Brexit will not have an impact on an already great recruitment problem. The final comment - from Martin Green, CE of Care England - more or less contradicts the headline and some of the other comments. The industry seems to be hoping that it will attract more foreign nurses from outside the EU, so that, assuming this is successful, Brexit will not much impact the so-called immigration problem. This seems another story dredged up to show that everything is rosy with Brexit

Of course, it's likely that EU immigrants will simply be replaced by those from countries such as India and Pakistan. Can't see UKIP welcoming them.

Immigration has put up house prices by 20% over the past 25 years and Britain’s post-Brexit border rules must take account of demand for affordable homes, the new housing minister has declared.

In an interview with The Sunday Times, Dominic Raab revealed that he is writing to the Migration Advisory Committee (MAC) urging it to consider the negative effects of new arrivals on housing demand as well as the positive economic benefits of immigration.

His intervention comes ahead of the committee publishing a report this autumn to inform the government’s new immigration plans.

Raab, a leading Brexiteer who has been tipped as a possible future Tory leader, also used his first print interview as housing minister to call for an end to Tory infighting over…
