Peter, I read a story on this earlier.

The story is here. MPs challenge 'doctrinaire' bishops. The good news is, they are being challenged over it.
Roman Catholic bishops are to appear in front of a powerful committee of MPs amid fears that they are pushing a fundamentalist brand of their religion in schools.

Peter, the Bishop might just have shot himself in the foot, have a look at this article.
MPs investigate Catholic influence on schools. It would seem that the ridiculous circular he sent out, has woken MPs up to what's going on.
The move comes after a 66-page circular from the Bishop of Lancaster, Patrick O'Donoghue, instructed Catholic schools in the North-west to stop "safe sex" education and place crucifixes in every classroom.
