To continue the theme of Scottish place names..... One of the major towns on Hong Kong Island is "Aberdeen".
There was also an Edinburgh Place and lots of Scottish sounding street names (such as Thomson - note that this is spelled correctly
without a 'p'!)
It was almost like home (except that every time you stepped out of a building or taxi you were soaked to the skin with sweat!) Oh and the millions of people around you all the time. And all the 50 storey ski-scrapers blocking out the sky. Actually it was nothing like home, but it was utterly fantastic to visit.
I particularly liked the "Walk with Buddha" exhibition on Lantau Island which included a big screen cartoon of the story of Siddartha and his road to enlightenment. Apparently it is all about letting go of the material things in life which would have been great apart from the fact that the end of the exhibition opened up into - yes you guessed it - a large 'gift shop' area where you too could purchase all your little Buddha nick-nacks. The irony was not lost on the kids who found it all very amusing.....
Anyway - that's me back now somewhat delayed and a lot poorer after missing the flight home and having to buy new tickets! However at least we all got back safely and with
our luggage despite going through the dreaded T5 at Heathrow so alls well that ends well.
