Latest post of the previous page:

Millions of bikes, though. Have you seen the multi-storey bike-park at the train station?

998,183 <- that's the countdown number, not the number of bikes!

There are three fundamental questions for anyone advocating Brexit:

1. What, precisely, are the significant and tangible benefits of leaving the EU?
2. What damage to the UK and its citizens is an acceptable price to pay for those benefits?
3. Which ruling of the ECJ is most persuasive of the need to leave its jurisdiction?

THe last time I was in Amsterdam, I saw a barge full of bicycles that had been fished out of the canals...

If you go to the Museum, Jem, the stern section of the Royal Charles, which the Dutch nicked when they invaded the River Medway in 1667, is on the wall. Can you ask them if we can have it back?

Hey Nick that means you're the same age as me.
Is this a comment on the appeal of this type of site, or just an indication of how long it takes to find a humanist forum?

Hi all! Flying visit from Hong Kong. Weather was fabulous for the first few days, but unfortunately we are now cooped up in my brother's flat watching the lightning and more rain than I have ever seen before

It's still totally roasting though. I quickly realised after the first night out (to Happy Valley Race Course) that whatever the time of day or night, you really, really don't need a jacket or a cardigan "just in case". Even the rain is warm - it's really strange......

Amazing place though - just slightly different from a wee Fife village! :laughter:

Think I'm on the same time as everyone else now.
Well!
How are you all?
It's actually quite nice in Cardiff bay.

Reference the request above, I asked them and they said, 'No' before calling the men in white coats. I managed to strike a deal with them that they let me leave the country rather than lock me up.

Greetings from Copenhagan.

Guess where I am? Clue: it's not in Scotland but there is a place with the same name in Scotland.

Yes, Emma's guess was my first thought and then I looked at the IP address of Moonbeam's post and saw that we are right! Hey, Moonbeam, what are you doing down under? And why has it been so long since we last saw you on here?

My second guess was going to be Dunedin, New Zealand. And then I realised that there's not actually a place called Dunedin in Scotland ...

To continue the theme of Scottish place names..... One of the major towns on Hong Kong Island is "Aberdeen".

There was also an Edinburgh Place and lots of Scottish sounding street names (such as Thomson - note that this is spelled correctly without a 'p'!)

It was almost like home (except that every time you stepped out of a building or taxi you were soaked to the skin with sweat!) Oh and the millions of people around you all the time. And all the 50 storey ski-scrapers blocking out the sky. Actually it was nothing like home, but it was utterly fantastic to visit.

I particularly liked the "Walk with Buddha" exhibition on Lantau Island which included a big screen cartoon of the story of Siddartha and his road to enlightenment. Apparently it is all about letting go of the material things in life which would have been great apart from the fact that the end of the exhibition opened up into - yes you guessed it - a large 'gift shop' area where you too could purchase all your little Buddha nick-nacks. The irony was not lost on the kids who found it all very amusing..... :laughter:

Anyway - that's me back now somewhat delayed and a lot poorer after missing the flight home and having to buy new tickets! However at least we all got back safely and with our luggage despite going through the dreaded T5 at Heathrow so alls well that ends well.
