No help at all, since I've never heard of them (& I don't like using google until I have a solution I want to check).

Is the fruit "mango"? (Because, if so, I'm really struggling to get a bird from aegmnu)
ah, the "bird" was the musician, Charlie Parker. It is "mango" for the fruit, but the word with which you struggle has no meaning for me either, so just see what Celia Cruz recorded
or consider that the second word is a conjugation of the Spanish verb for "pinch" :D

this certainly tests various powers of deduction and research when you've not an idea what the answer is! The last four words of the clue suggest - "is not an option" ? AH, got it, Google to the rescue! Westphalia is not option. Well, suppose I deserve that after Mango Mangue

must be Athena, who has not responded on this one  I "discovered" the blues guitarist Joe Bonamassa after this challenge, but cannot relate him to Little Gidding. Please help me since I have an absolute stinker (not the tune, but its guessability) lined up for you. Athena's hot nest? Can't see this in Joe's listing

Little Gidding begins:

We shall not cease from exploration
And the end of all our exploring
Will be to arrive where we started
And know the place for the first time.

Now what was the city named for Athena? :D

PS thanks for introducing me to Joe B. Just listened to this tune on YouTube, and I specially enjoyed the keyed fiddle. In the highly unlikely event that I had written it I might have called it Athlone to Athlone because of the Irish feel, but I assume this is Athens, Georgia

I too assume so. The keyed fiddle mention suggests that you listed to the acoustic sessions at the Vienna Opera House versions - good; it's the best. :D Really good performer to see live.

Hmph! Saw the clue and that 8 letters were required and thought to myself , "Must be old dodgy-knees. This'll be a doddle!" :D

Hah! Overthinking it. Must be Algerian cynicism. I'll have to duckduckgo it as I've not heard of it.

I'll return with another, but feel free to post one yourself/ves if you have the urge...

dodgy knees to algerian cynicism - how the hell did you rise to the occasion, TT? Anyway, brilliant. I really thought this would take me over the moronic and disgusting time ahead of us. If you want to give me a disgusting season present, get hold of this tune on Utube and tell me that you like it, or otherwise

{preen}

Greek dog-philosopher had to be a cynic (etymology), so I thought, "Hah! Diogenes (dodgy knees) is 8 letters," realised it didn't fit, then saw that cynicism did, got stuck for a bit on "realign a", then "Algerian" sort of fell out of it once I pondered the Mahgreb bit (well, "realign a" wasn't going to give me Tunisian or Libyan). Anyway, that's how what I nowadays try to pass off as a mind functions. It's pretty basic; either I see things pretty quickly, or I sweat over them for ages; no middle ground.

As for Algerian cynicism on YouTube: not my cup of tea - a bit "plip plop" and "clever" for my simple tastes. Here's something more to my liking:
