it would have been good to at least heard the Xian opponent, though I doubt that he would have been convincing. Ehrman does a good job of outlining the historian's job, showing that genuine historians are in a general sense "scientific", ie objective, but he also shows the difference between practising history and science: history, unlike natural phenomena, does not repeat itself

It's true that historic events don't keep repeating the way you can repeat experiments in science. Unless we capture an event with camcorder it is gone forever. Christians say that almost all of the disciples were martyred for preaching Christianity and that proves that Christianity is true but what evidence is there for the claim that they were martyred for preaching Christianity?

I don't know of any actual evidence that they actually existed. There are only 'stories' handed down generations of Christians. If God is all-knowing and all-powerful, why not leave irrefutable and incontrovertible evidence proving his existence? It makes no sense.
