Dogs are cruel, Cats are cool
Dogs are cruel, Cats are cool
This is in the nature of a tribute thread, one of the first started on our last Board and frequently bumped over the following twenty months, much to the amazement of newer members. The title may look the same but it isn't..quite. But I look forward to some in-depth discussion on this topic of world shattering importance.
Also it seems a good excuse to post a pic of my friend's new kitten:

I have no pet at the moment but have had several cats and the kitten pic is really good. Can we assign to animals the attributes we assign to human beings?
I have never had a dog but then when I see Alan C's Old English Bull Terrier I get a rush of nostalgia for Jock, of the same breed, whom I knew well when I was a child. He had the strength of an ox and was really stubborn but otherwise he was the gentlest soul imaginable. Every so often he would escape his owner and make a beeline for our house. I never knew why he was so keen on us. Perhaps he just knew we liked him. It was a real problem to get him to go home again. He was stronger and much more determined than I was. But then, I would happily have kept him...

Here's my other one,

and btw you are right in your description of the breed.
The English Bull Terrier is a breed apart, the clowns of the dog world, and the most gentle, affectionate dogs you could wish to encounter.
You're right he is OLD nearly 13, but old is not in the name, He is an English Bull Terrier, you're maybe getting mixed up with "Old English Sheepdog"lewist.

He's a Maine Coon kitten and it seems to be the culture to register pedigree cats with a ridiculous name but to call them a different but equally ridiculous name. So you'll find cats registered with names like Lord Garibaldi Pancake and called Harry for short.Noggin wrote:You called an animal Pythagoras?
We call our boy Pie, which at least is related to Pythagoras. Alan prefers to spell it Pi as in 'Pi R squared' (sorry I don't know how to type the special characters').
We called him Pythagoras because his namesake came from Samos, like my mother. Here's a pic, when we first got him a couple of months ago and still small enough to fit into a basket. Maine Coons are the largest domestic cats and some of them are HUGE.

You're telling me it isn't, woman!Moonbeam wrote:This is in the nature of a tribute thread, one of the first started on our last Board and frequently bumped over the following twenty months, much to the amazement of newer members. The title may look the same but it isn't..quite.
MY original thread was entitled 'Dogs are cool, Cats are cruel' (jings! I hope I haven't broken some American data protection law by saying that!)
IIRC, as least I put up some kind of rational and coherent argument in favour of my case.
Hello to all dog lovers and thanks for posting pics of your beautiful babies. I'll sort out a pic of my laddie soon.
Re: Dogs are cruel, Cats are cool
Nice to see you, Sarah.

OK. But how about one of your dog?
Our little pussycat Shelly passed away a few weeks ago aged nearly 17. Very sad. We still have her ashes waiting for the children to come over from Ireland so we can scatter her in the garden.
We got a Furr Real life-size toy cat which we've called Snowball. Eats batteries (rechargable). Meows, purrs, yawns, moves about a bit, whirrs, clicks and occasionally hisses. No pooh!
Sad or what?

Ooooo! I love border collies. I had to put my 15yr old one down last year! They are wonderful if you keep them busy!
I love both cats and dogs. I had a 14 yr old cat that I also had to put down. She was a 21lb, HUGE black kitty, named Pee-Pot!
I've kept about every critter under the sun...but now I just have my little man...my 13 yr old Shih-Tzu, Humbo...
