Hellish wind and rain here tonight. Hope it's not too bad up there, Alan!

We have about one and a half inches of new snow this morning. I guess I'll clear the path before I go out. I hope everyone else is ok.

Same as you Lewis, around an inch of snow, we got the gale last night but I can't see any (new) damage.
The wind is still South West but just a stiff breeze.

Bright sunshine here!

There are three fundamental questions for anyone advocating Brexit:

1. What, precisely, are the significant and tangible benefits of leaving the EU?
2. What damage to the UK and its citizens is an acceptable price to pay for those benefits?
3. Which ruling of the ECJ is most persuasive of the need to leave its jurisdiction?

Ah, but a stiff breeze to you Shetlanders is not quite the same thing as a stiff breeze in the soft sunny south

Melting snow and very strong gusty wind rattling the window panes here...

Glad to hear you all weathered the wee storm.

110km an hour winds predicted just south of here today as the Chinook comes roaring down from the mountains. That will run our temp up to about 10C but it will plunge back down on Saturday. Nice reprieve though.
I am driving up to the mountains today to take my other daughter out for her birthday lunch. The wind will be howling in the Gap as I enter the mountains. Should be a lovely day for the drive.

Bright sunshine since a week here on the Alps with temp up to +8DegC!
High traffic pollution has brought authorities to reduce speed limit to 80Km/h on motorways (to reduce dust particles).
First day -today- to have taken off my heavy coat! (unusual in this season)

The wind speed rapidly increased over the course of the afternoon here, and we currently have a steady Force 8 with gusts at the top end of 10. The forecast further North is for much stronger than that! The ferry from Heysham is approaching Douglas at 15 knots.....I'm so glad I'm not on it!

Is that:

a) slow, with the wind agin it?

or

b) fast with the wind up it's blunt end?

Not far off the usual speed, but wind SSW so almost side-on, not very comfortable when sea "high".

Ah, yes, know the thing. Took my sister to France, for the day, as a birthday pressie many years ahgo. On the way back she remarked that she was glad the seas were steady.

Then I pointed out of the window and we watched the waves going way-up and way-down and thanked the designer of the stabilisers!

We have gotten through the mega storm fairly well. No power outage for us, but many did have their's go out. We are dug out with huge mounds of snow lining the walk and driveways. Today it is cold, windy, but very sunny.

Hope this is the last bad storm we get this winter. I've been ready for spring since..... fall. lol

When do you normally get Spring? We used to get it around the end of March but now it's more like the end of April.
The last 3 or 4 years here March has been the worst Month of Winter.

We usually get into spring around the middle of April, but it varies. We seem to go from winter to a hot summer in just a few weeks.

We got four more inches of snow yesterday on top of what we got in the storm Tuesday. Hills of snow in my front and back yard. Everything is white outside - yards, walks, streets, cars, roofs. I crave green.

Thanks Sel,
We lost the door to one of the outhouses, which I've repaired today, other than that just minor damage to windbreaks and such.
Oh and the front windows are a mess with the salt and grit blown off the road.

Wow! Alan. I heard it had been very bad up there in the frozen north.

I worked beside a woman from Shetalnd whose father was a builder there and she said that her father installed double glazing from Norway as UK stuff was not strong enough. She also said that roofs were constructed differently because of the wind. D'you know if that's right?
