*Mists begin to clear*

In April 1968, I celebrated my 10th birthday in Paris. Mummy and Daddy gave me a flyover for my electic car track. How cool was that!?!

A month later, Paris was in chaos.

Nothing to do with me, guv!

did you mean "bad" or "bed"? Other thing is that I notice three at least of you were in confrontational jobs like police or armed forces - were you humanists at the time? Had it been invented?

Humanism was certainly around in the 1960s....has been around much longer, of course, although I was merely an atheist when I was in the Police Force.

My job involved taking the oath many times, of course, and I always chose to affirm. It was never a problem, except for generating some diapproving glares from certains JPs.

There are three fundamental questions for anyone advocating Brexit:

1. What, precisely, are the significant and tangible benefits of leaving the EU?
2. What damage to the UK and its citizens is an acceptable price to pay for those benefits?
3. Which ruling of the ECJ is most persuasive of the need to leave its jurisdiction?

I was at school till 1964. I got better A Levels than expected in that year and got into Oxford. I was both focused and inefficient, if that is possible, and now think that I had over-achieved; there were problems as I approached Finals, and I am increasingly unsure whether my eventual and official Upper Second degree was genuine, or a fix to ensure that I did not do anything "silly" - which would have been a problem for the University. At the end of the 60s I was studying librarianship at Ealing.

1960[--][/--]2, in a huge pram outside 51 Bourne Street, London SW1. 1963[--][/--]4, at nursery school, getting told off for blowing too loudly on my hot prunes and custard. 1964, living in an old pub in Collyweston, Northamptonshire, having baths in a galvanised tin bath. 1965[--][/--]6, at infant school in Stamford, Lincs, having my first crush, on Angus McKenzie. 1966[--][/--]7, in Port Stanley, the Falkland Islands, calling my friends "Chay", and leaving my duffle coat on a beach for the penguins. 1967[--][/--]9, back in Stamford, trying to block up drains with fallen leaves, so I've been told. 1969, back in London, attempting to play "Für Elise" on the piano, and watching the moon landing.

Started the '60s an 11 yo Catholic. Finshed a 21 yo atheist. And it wasn't an easy journey!
Apart from that; In spite of being in Liverpool in the early sixties I thought The Kinks were miles better than either the Beatles or the Stones.! And I rated the Beach Boys, too.

Where was I in the 60"s?

Well I was a teen-ager. The perfect age to rock all the way through.
In 1961 we moved from Nova Scotia to Banff AB - the tourist town in the Rockies. While my folks lived there, I went to highschool in Calgary ('61-'64) and a Catholic Convent Boarding School none-the-less. Explains a lot. We had to be silent much of the time and I have been trying to make up for lost time ever since. :hilarity:

My summers, up to and including '67, were spent working in Banff. Man those were the days. That little tourist town rocked from May, after university exams, till September...We worked hard and played harder. Kept a blackboard to record upcoming dates and dances. Every night a different guy even though I had a winter time boyfriend.

I am told that if you remember the 60's you were not really there. Because I stayed away from drugs I remember it all vividly. My boyfriend ('65-'67)at the time became a true Hippy and did not come up for air till he was 33. He would spend 6 months of the year living in mountain top fire towers and the other 6 months running a lighthouse on an Island in the Inside Passage on the West Coast.

I attended University from '65-'70 where I received a BSc in Math and an after degree in Education. I was married in '68...not to the Hippy.

We almost visited Banff (how can you almost visit a place? :puzzled: )
In 2000, we were going to take the week long trip through the Rockies on the train, then a week long cruise to Alaska.
We (rightly or wrongly) decided to move here instead.

1962 till 1966 I was in what they called "fully comprehensive school" I wouldn't describe it as any kind of "school" 1966 till 1979 in my first job (upholsterer)

I was just one year below you - Hertford, 1965.

Such problems were pretty common, after all. I very much doubt the University would alter finals marks. I reckon you earned your second.

thanks for that, Griblet, and actually I started in 1965 too! Sort of a gap (half) year, but the term was not used then as far as I know

I'm not sure where I was either. I remember the late 60's was sort of dark but warm. Lots of swimming. But the start of the 1970s was a bit of a pain.
