Weather - or not!
Weather - or not!
A chance for people to talk about their weather.
Had a lovely day yesterday - sunshine and then clear sky in the evening with nice things for astronomers at night. Still cold of course but the frogs have starting jumping.

We don't have any here.

There are three fundamental questions for anyone advocating Brexit:
1. What, precisely, are the significant and tangible benefits of leaving the EU?
2. What damage to the UK and its citizens is an acceptable price to pay for those benefits?
3. Which ruling of the ECJ is most persuasive of the need to leave its jurisdiction?

Humph! OK, it's 9.6°C here, overcast, 100% cloud cover, no wind, no precipitation. That's out the back [---][/---] it may be different out the front...let me go and check. Nope. It's the same there too!

I refuse to make any more truthful statements about the weather here in Florida. I'm afraid I've gone and made Alan C forever incensed at me for commenting about our warm and sunny climate. So I will say that the weather here today is abysmal. Well below freezing with heavy snow fall in the mountains.

I have some growing under Beech trees at the bottom of the garden.
Do you have acid soil where you are? Gaultheria like an acid soil,
I think (but not sure) that they are related to the heather family.
I'll say it before somebody else does, what's this got to do with the bloody weather?
There must be a god! as I was typing we had a hail shower, so I'm back on topic

Of course there is a god -- and a devil too.
What else could cause us to bake in the sun and freeze in the shade two minutes later just round the corner?
Treacherous weather in southern Spain; it reached 21° yesterday according to the thermometer in the shade, but it felt like 30° in the sun. The tourists all go topless -- and catch pneumonia in a draught.

C'mon guys! it's "precipitation", not rain, and " a bit windy" just won't do! We need to know direction and speed in knots.jaywhat wrote:Today spots of rain and a bit windy
Some idea of sea-state and visibility would be nice, too. If I'm going to lose my lunch over the side, I won't take too much trouble over it.

I've no idea if the sea's in a state or not - I'm miles from it. Even on a good day...Nick wrote:jaywhat wrote:Some idea of sea-state and visibility would be nice, too.

a) I did not saything about sea state. I doubt that I have ever used those two words together in 70 years. Except perhaps in something like ' We are gong to the sea; state where you are going.'Alan H wrote:I've no idea if the sea's in a state or not - I'm miles from it. b) Huddersfield is quite a long way way from any sea so my interest is minimal and my knowledge even less.
c) I will say rain if it's rain and snow if it's snow. If it could be either, including hail, and I want to sound a bit clever, I might just say precipitation.

Give yourself a gold star, Alan (though wind-speed in knots would be nice ) You can give yourself more wiggle room on wind-speed by using the Beaufort scale. How kind am I?
