The Psychological gaze
Does psychology have some uses in modern society? not in any technical sense:
Modern Psychology teaches us that "thinking" is a measurable psychological energy that some materials give off. This idea doesn't have any use or reality.
But psychology DOES have a use in that it can be used as a weapon against people who display anti-christian, anti-puritanical, unacceptable behaviours and thoughts. So it is no coincidence that the Russians used psychology to suppress dissent.
Similarly, some dodgy christians, scientists, atheists and humanists will suppress dissent by urging dissenters to be treated. Psychology is one of the great suppressive cults of our age, and always comes in useful when times are difficult and people are making trouble.

Are you a scientologist, John?
Re: The Psychological gaze
I don't think that's an accurate depiction of psychology. May be an accurate description of psychiatry, though!

Do you ken John Jones with his cryptic posts?
Do you ken John Jones with his Holy Ghost?
Do you ken John Jones who shows disdain for his hosts?
With his superficial posts in the morning....

I predict tomorrow's thread will be something like 'the relationship of words to thought' or 'randomness, contingency, sets, and Dawkins', judging by what JJ has posted elsewhere on the web. There seems to be a pattern of starting these rather strange threads which never attract more than a few responses and never go anywhere. I have to wonder what your purpose is here, John?
Not that I'm bothered much at present. It's good to see something a bit different sometimes.
Re: The Psychological gaze
Two psychiatrists met walking along the road.
Said the first: "You're all right! How am I?"
and the second wonders quite what he meant by that remark......

Re: The Psychological gaze
What's a black socialist? A socialist who is black, or a particularly dark form of socialism?

Maybe these scientology people have something. Don't they have machines that can read your mind? That'd come in handy!

Fanatics who feel their position is threatened will accuse others of being what they are not. It's easier with group support.getreal wrote:Maybe these scientology people have something. Don't they have machines that can read your mind? That'd come in handy!
I think that describes the situation pretty well. What do you think?

Oh wow - so is it true that JJ is a scientologist? How did you work that one out, Fia?
Re: The Psychological gaze
Which situation do you think it describes pretty well, John? I don't see anyone accusing anybody of being anything on here. What have I missed?John Jones wrote:Fanatics who feel their position is threatened will accuse others of being what they are not.
